Liposuction is the second leading plastic surgery procedure in America, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. As new techniques continue to advance, our patients in West Virginia have more options than ever when it comes to finding an ideal fat-elimination surgery. When most people think of liposuction, they think of the traditional tumescent method. However, Slim Lipo is growing more and more popular.
While the ultimate goal is the same – to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise – tumescent liposuction and Slim Lipo differ in three fundamental ways.
1 –Tumescent Liposuction and Slim Lipo Procedures
Both Slim Lipo and tumescent liposuction contour your frame by using a small instrument called a cannula to suction out unwanted fat cells. The tumescent liposuction process involves the injection of a lidocaine and epinephrine formula which causes your fat cells to swell and firm up. This makes it easier to isolate and remove the fat cells through the cannula. The Slim Lipo process, on the other hand, uses a special cannula that contains a small laser fiber inside. This heats your fat cells and skin tissue, liquefying the fat. When the fat cells are softened, they are easier to remove and the procedure results in significantly less bruising.
2 –Tightening of Loose Skin
Liposuction can effectively eliminate stubborn pockets of fat from virtually any part of your body. When fat is removed from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, upper arms or “love handles’, patients are sometimes left with loose skin in those target regions. This occurs particularly with older patients or women who have completed pregnancy. A major benefit of the Slim Lipo procedure over traditional tumescent liposuctions is that the laser energy used to heat and liquefy fat cells simultaneously tightens the skin.
3 – Recovery from Liposuction
Recovering from traditional tumescent liposuction takes longer than recovering from Slim Lipo. Tumescent liposuction recovery requires you to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks to address bruising and swelling. Patients must also refrain from certain activities like exercise to ensure a proper recovery. In contrast, Slim Lipo recovery is much faster, sometimes in as little as a few days. Slim Lipo leaves less bruising and patients are only required to wear compression garments for about a week. Smart Lipo can be performed without general anesthesia, requires shorter incisions, and has less risk of infection.
