We proudly offer CoolSculpting to help our clients sculpt the body of their dreams. Since many of us are looking to get a coolsculpting treatment, many of which also often asked how long does it take for coolsculpting recovery.
What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body sculpting treatment that targets and freezes fat deposits that won’t budge despite diet and exercise. Treatment lasts between one and three hours depending on the size of the areas targeted and the volume of fat present. This treatment is perfectly safe for anyone without Raynaud’s disease or other special medical conditions.
It’s non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, needles or incisions and was approved by the FDA in 2012 for both safety and efficacy. Since then, over 4 million treatments have been performed and there are no reports of severe side effects. Coolsculpting recovery reports have been good and no severe side-effects known.
Which Areas Does It Treat?
This treatment is often used to reduce fat in the following areas:
- Bra bulge (middle back)
- Lower buttocks
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs
- Upper abdomen
- Lower abdomen
- Upper arms
- Lower back
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
How many CoolSculpting treatments you will need depends on several factors. These include the size and number of locations you want to treat, the volume of fat you have in your trouble spots and your aesthetic goals. A single treatment can result in a reduction of 20 to 80% of localized fat volume. However, the average fat reduction hovers around 25%.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Treatment starts with the application of a gel pad and applicator to the treatment site. The applicator delivers targeted cooling to the area of fat deposits that need to be treated. The device will be moved over your skin as suction occurs and the area is cooled. You will feel the pulling of the suction device, but the cold delivered by the applicator will numb the treatment site and prevent you from feeling any pain.
If you’re worried about pain or discomfort, you may choose to take Tylenol before your treatment. Just make sure you aren’t taking any NSAIDs, as these thin your blood and can lead to bruising. Many of our clients find this treatment so comfortable that they read a book or play video games on their phones during treatment.
Once your treatment is over, your plastic surgeon will immediately massage the treated sites to break up any frozen deep tissue. This helps your body absorb the frozen fat cells faster.
What Is DualSculpting?
DualSculpting is the use of two cryolipolysis devices at once. It is often used in areas such as the arms, thighs or flanks to ensure two devices are running at the exact same time for the exact same direction. This guarantees symmetry in your results. If your fat deposits are symmetrical on both sides of your body, this iteration of cryolipolysis may be right for you.
How Long Does It for Coolsculpting Recovery?
Because this treatment is non-invasive, coolsculpting recovery time is minimal. You can go straight back to your daily activities. In fact, some of our clients enjoy a therapeutic effect from the cold treatment. The only after-care you need to commit to is maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If you avoid NSAIDs before treatment, you shouldn’t experience any bruising from the suction device. Any local redness caused by the cold should subside very quickly once your skin warms back up.
How Can I Prepare for Treatment?
Just like coolsculpting recovery, preparation for this treatment is minimal. The two most important things you can do to prepare for this treatment is being generally healthy and close to your ideal weight. To mitigate the risk of bruising, don’t take anti-inflammatory analgesics, such as aspirin, within four hours of your treatment. Finally, be prepared to take “before” pictures so your plastic surgeon can assess the results of treatment.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
The best CoolSculpting candidates are in overall good health, have realistic expectations about the results and wish to reduce the volume of localized fat deposits. Let’s take a closer look at what makes a good candidate:
You’re Not Pregnant
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not studied the effects of cryolipolysis on women who are pregnant and their unborn children. Thus, we do not recommend this treatment to pregnant women. Moreover, your body is flooded with hormones during pregnancy, some of which may cause weight gain in the lower abdomen. This could have an effect on the results.
You Don’t Plan on Becoming Pregnant
There are no health risks to you or your fetus if you become pregnant after cryolipolysis. However, there is no way to predict how pregnancy will change your body. Therefore, we recommend this treatment to clients who believe they are done bearing children. This gives you the best chance for optimal results.
You Have Enough Fat to Treat
For CoolSculpting to work effectively, there needs to be an adequate amount of fat for it to treat. As a rule of thumb, this treatment is ideal for clients who have at least an inch of pinchable fat.
Even if you have enough fat to treat, the traditional suction applicator may not be compatible with your body. In that case, we will treat you with a smooth, flat applicator.
Liposuction Isn’t Right for You
Liposuction is similar to this treatment in that fat cells are removed from your body and suction is involved. However, if your plastic surgeon has ruled liposuction out for you, cryolipolysis might still be an option.
While liposuction is effective, it’s not right for everyone. If you can’t afford to take time off of work to recover, or you can’t afford general anesthesia, CoolSculpting may be the best solution for your body contouring needs. Depending on the size of the target area, liposuction can require up to a month like of a coolsculpting recovery.
You Understand How Treatment Works
The best candidates for this treatment understand how it works, what you can expect from coolsculpting recovery results, and are dedicated to maintaining these results. That’s why it’s so important for you to schedule your initial consultation with Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery in Beckley, WV today. We will walk you through everything you need to know about this treatment. If you don’t think it’s right for you, we’ll help you find a better body contouring solution.
You’re In Good General Health
There is little-to-no coolsculpting recovery time associated with this treatment. However, it’s still best that you’re generally healthy before receiving cryolipolysis. During your initial consultation, we will review your medical history to ensure this is the best body contouring treatment for you. For example, if you have a chronic nerve condition or Reynaud’s disease, a different body contouring treatment may be right for you.
You Hate the Way Your Clothes Fit
Sometimes, the location of our fat deposits makes it impossible to find flattering clothes. This is true even in individuals at a healthy weight. For example, if most of your fat is deposited around your chest, shirts that are large enough at the chest may look boxy at your waist.
Similarly, if your fat is primarily located at your thighs, it can be hard to find pants that are large enough for your thighs but slim enough for your calves, hips and waist.
You’re Near Your Goal Weight
It is essential that you remember cryolipolysis is a fat removal treatment rather than a weight loss treatment. This means it won’t shed the 50 pounds you’ve accumulated over the past decade juggling two jobs and raising children. Rather, it will help you eliminate approximately 25% of fat volume from your trouble spots once you’re at or near a healthy weight.
Some of our clients come in for follow-up treatments for the same area they targeted the first time. This eliminates around a quarter of the remaining fat volume in the trouble area. But it doesn’t eliminate an additional quarter of the initial fat volume. If you’re still over 30 pounds away from your goal weight, talk to your general health practitioner about a weight loss plan to help you get closer to your goal.
You’re Committed to a Healthy Lifestyle
The results of cryolipolysis are considered permanent. This is because treatment freezes the fat cells to death. Once they are eliminated from your body, you cannot grow new fat cells. Thus, there are permanently fewer fat cells in the treated area. However, you can still gain weight after treatment, especially if you become pregnant. Depending on your genetics, the remaining fat cells in the treated area may fill with fat and expand.
Thus, the best candidates for this treatment are committed to eating healthy, reasonably portioned meals and exercising regularly. This is the only way to ensure your enhanced contours remain.
Alternative Fat Reduction Methods
While this treatment is FDA-approved for safety and efficacy, it isn’t right for everyone. Luckily, there are several fat reduction methods available to you. These include SculpSure (WarmSculpting) and liposuction.
SculpSure comes with the same benefits of cryolipolysis. It is non-invasive, requires no general anesthesia, is more affordable than liposuction and doesn’t come with any downtime. However, it has a distinct advantage over the cold body contouring method. Treatment only takes about 25 minutes.
What Is Sculpsure?
SculpSure, also known as lunch-time lipo, is a fast, effective fat reduction method. Unlike cryolipolysis, it can destroy fat deposits in the abdominal region in under an hour. Currently, the FDA has approved this treatment to reduce fat volume in the upper and lower abdomen, flanks, middle and lower back, chin and inner and outer thighs. It is not yet FDA-approved to address gynecomastia, gynecomastia or upper arm fat.
How Does It Work?
SculpSure harnesses the power of laser light energy to heat fat cells beyond repair. Once the fat cells are killed, your lymphatic system absorbs them and treats them like dietary fat. They are processed by the liver and excreted as waste when you urinate. Of course, this process takes a couple weeks to a few months to complete. But you’ll only be in our office for an hour at a time at most.
Does It Hurt?
While being zapped by a laser may sound scary, treatment is very tolerable. In fact, it’s not uncommon for a client to take a nap or catch up on her favorite book during treatment. The SculpSure laser device simultaneously cools your skin and penetrates it with light that heats the fat cells beneath your skin.
Is It Safe?
Unlike many laser treatments to correct uneven pigmentation, hair removal, acne scars and tattoos, the SculpSure device is safe for people of all skin tones and types.
Is It Right for Me?
SculpSure may be right for you if you don’t have enough fat for the cryolipolysis applicator to latch onto. Since there is no suction involved, it may be the best treatment for you if you have a blood disease that leaves you severely susceptible to bruising. As a non-invasive fat removal treatment, it’s a good option for people who aren’t healthy enough for liposuction or want to save money on general anesthesia.
Liposuction is similar to cryolipolysis in the length of treatment, amount of time it takes to see results and fat removal efficacy. It requires approximately an inch of pinchable fat, which is more than required for SculpSure. Like both these body contouring treatments, it is safe for most problem areas, including the chin, abdomen, buttocks and thighs.
Is Liposuction Right for Me?
Liposuction may be right for you if you’re looking to treat gynecomastia but you have an extreme sensitivity to cold, since SculpSure has not yet been approved for removing fat from the chest. One of the most significant benefits of liposuction for men with gynecomastia is that you are usually already under general anesthesia.
Discreet incisions will usually already have already been made within your armpit folds, so other improvements can be made to your chest. These include the removal and tightening of excess skin and the removal of excess glandular tissue. Moreover, it’s easy enough to improve the contour of your flanks while you are under general anesthesia if you’re concerned about love handles.
Types of Liposuction
There are several types of liposuction and each has its own unique advantages. We can discuss these options in greater detail when you come in for your initial consultation. To summarize your options briefly, you can choose from:
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
- Laser-assisted liposuction
- Super-wet liposuction
- Tumescent liposuction
Tumescent liposuction is by far the most common technique. It involves injecting a saline solution with a volume of up to three times the amount of fat that will be removed. This saline solution also includes epinephrine to contract the blood vessels and lidocaine to make treatment comfortable. Depending on the extent of the procedure, lidocaine may be the only anesthetic you receive.
