When Will I See Results From Acne Treatment?

Acne can be all-encompassing, it can drain you of your confidence, make you feel self-conscious, and consume your thoughts. What if there was a solution that could improve your acne and prevent future breakouts, and it didn’t involve the use of drying chemicals or invasive methods? At Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery in Beckley, WV, we offer a gentle yet effective acne treatment that will improve your skin, prevent breakouts, and restore your confidence.

When Will I See Results From Acne Treatment?

Once you begin an acne treatment program plan, you will notice immediate improvements in the appearance of your acne. When you stay consistent, you will continue to see more improvements as well as the inevitable disappearance of your blemishes. While the total time that it takes to get results will vary from one patient to the next based on their skin type, you can rest assured that our experts will develop a treatment plan customized for your skin.

What Is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition that results in inflammation. Acne results from clogged pores filled with oil, sebum, and dead skin cells. These follicles and pores can show up as blackheads, whiteheads, or pimples, and can become infected and inflamed. It can happen to anyone, at any time, during any life stage, anywhere on the body. However, it is often the most difficult to deal with when it appears on your face because it can affect your confidence.

What Is Acne Treatment?

Many different methods attempt to treat acne. At our Healing Springs Medical Spa, we know that if you have acne, you’ve probably tried it all without much success. Creams, serums, patches, even pills may provide a temporary improvement in the appearance of your acne, but none of these attack the source from which acne stems. Hence, we offer an effective, non-invasive acne reduction treatment that uses photodynamic therapy.

At Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery Healing Springs Medical Spa, we are proud to offer a blue light therapy treatment called Blu-U, designed by Dusa, one of the most well-respected names in aesthetic technology. This treatment is an effective way to heal active, existing acne, and prevent the development of future breakouts. It involves the use of blue light to target the bacteria that cause acne and destroy it.

How Does It Work?

This blue light technology has the power to attack the P. Acnes bacteria that leads to breakouts. During your treatment, your technician will apply the blue light to your face for a specific time as you relax and let the light do its work. Once your treatment concludes, you are free to go about the rest of your day knowing that you are on the road to healing.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Acne affects different skin types in different ways, so the total number of treatments needed will be unique to each patient. Typically, we recommend a treatment plan that includes one to two treatments each week for five weeks. This schedule provides optimal results. During your initial consultation, we will develop a treatment plan that best suits your needs and goals. Once we examine your skin, we can determine the best number of treatments needed.

How Long Do Treatments Take?

You won’t have to spend all day at your appointment when you schedule this treatment. The typical treatment time, once the light is applied to your skin, takes approximately 17 minutes. Treatments are quick and effective, so you can easily schedule them during a lunch break at work if necessary.

Is There Any Downtime?

The benefit of this treatment is that there is no downtime. There are no harsh chemicals and it does not use any invasive measures. It involves only the use of safe and effective blue light that will target and destroy the bacteria that cause acne. You can schedule your treatments at a time that works best for you, and since there is no downtime, you can resume all of your typical daily activities immediately following treatment.

Am I a Candidate?

Acne is most commonly associated with the teenage years however more and more adults, both men and women, in their 20’s and 30’s and even beyond struggle with acne to the point that it affects their confidence and their daily life. If your acne is keeping you from experiencing the joy of life or is even makes you the least bit self-conscious, you are most likely a candidate that will benefit and find a solution for your acne from this acne treatment.

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns and help you determine whether or not this treatment is the best way for you to improve your skin and find freedom from your acne.

Ways To Build on Your Acne Treatment Results

Once you begin to notice results from this treatment, there are things that you can do to build on those results and begin your skin transformation. When you apply serums and creams to your skin and attempt to control your acne on the surface, you are not addressing the root cause of your acne which often stems from an issue within the body. Diet, exercise, and topical product choice are all factors that play a significant role in the appearance of your skin.

Taking care of your skin requires discipline. It requires that you say no to certain things, even when you feel like eating them. It involves making a commitment to schedule blue light treatments and then showing up for those appointments, no matter how busy you are. When you make certain lifestyle changes and add and remove some specific foods to and from your diet, you will only add to the positive results that come from your blue light treatments.

Examine Your Diet

You are what you eat and your skin is proof of that. Some people are the exception and can eat whatever they want and still have perfect skin, but for the most part, your skin reflects your diet. If you eat a diet filled with unhealthy fats, processed foods, sugars, and salt, your skin will reflect that.

Avoid Sugar

You may have heard the saying that chocolate causes acne, and while that technically is not true, there is some truth to it. The truth behind this saying has to do with the fact that too much sugar negatively affects your skin and can lead to breakouts. Sugar causes inflammation within the body and inflammation creates the perfect breeding ground for acne. When you limit your sugar intake, your skin will improve.

Ditch Dairy

If your acne won’t go away even though you’re eating a healthy diet, you may want to consider temporarily giving up dairy products. Use this as an experimental test to see whether it does affect your skin. Dairy Products contain certain proteins and ingredients that cause the body to release hormones that can lead to breakouts.

Try the elimination diet and avoid eating dairy products and watch your skin’s reaction to see if it makes a difference. Most likely, your skin will improve once your diet is free of dairy products.

Limit Gluten

Gluten-free diets are all the rage right now, however, if you don’t have a problem with gluten, you probably haven’t thought to remove it from your diet. Gluten can affect the skin negatively. Many dietitians have discovered that there is a direct link between skin inflammation and gluten whether or not you are gluten intolerant. If you want to see if gluten is affecting your skin negatively, try the elimination diet.

Stop eating gluten for a week and watch your skin’s reaction and then adjust your diet accordingly. If you add gluten back into your diet and your skin begins to show signs of inflammation, then you will know that limiting gluten will help you get clearer skin.

Up Your Water Intake

Hydration is essential for good skin. If you’re not drinking enough water, you’re not allowing your body to flush the toxins from your body. However, they will find any way out that they can, which often shows up in the form of acne on the skin. Try to double your water intake and watch your skin’s reaction. You will most likely notice a positive change in your skin within 24 hours of increasing your water intake.

Exercise

When you make movement a part of your day, you get endorphins, increase circulation, and help your blood receive oxygen. All of these things positively affect your skin. When you don’t exercise, your skin suffers. Commit to moving for at least 30 minutes or more daily. Take a brisk walk in the morning or the evening, join a neighborhood gym, work out with the trainer, or download a fitness app on your phone so that you can start doing at-home workouts.

Evaluate Your Skincare Routine

Give Your Skin a Break

It’s tempting to load your skin with acne-fighting products when you are experiencing a breakout, but you may be doing your skin more harm than good. Drying products may seem to help acne temporarily, but your skin will react to those products by increasing its oil production which will eventually cause more acne.

Give your skin a break from your acne-fighting products and instead, apply gentle, topical products that will nourish and protect the skin without adding more oils or causing it to become overly dry.

Invest in a Quality Skincare Line

There comes a point in life where drugstore skincare products simply don’t cut it anymore. If you want beautiful skin, invest in a professional skincare line that has products specifically designed to treat and improve your skin. If you are prone to acne and have oily skin, a professional skin care line will provide you with the products you need to help improve your skin over time.

Schedule a Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are another way to add to your blue light treatment results. There are chemical peels that are specifically designed for acne-prone skin and can help get rid of any acne scarring that you may have from past breakouts. Combining chemical peels with your blue light treatments will help you reach your skin goals.
