What Does a Brow Lift Do?

As we age, we’re always trying to turn back the hands of time and improve the way we look. We don’t do it because we’re vain; we do it because it makes us happy. Brow lift treatment is a great way to look younger and feel better. At Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery in Beckley, WV, we specialize in improving lives and helping our patients through every step of the process.

What Does a Brow Lift Do?

While aging is one of the most natural things we do, we’re always looking for ways to turn back the clock or, better yet, point it in the opposite direction. That’s essentially what the treatment does. It helps provide patients with a more youthful appearance while improving your facial expression and giving you a “softer” look.

As we age, skin starts to sag and appear looser, and a brow lift helps with these issues. It restores your appearance by lifting your face, opening up your eyes, and tightening your forehead in the process.

Why Get a Brow Lift?

So you understand the medical and physical benefits of the treatment, but why would someone want to get this done? While it does provide you with a more youthful appearance, it can also do the following:

  • Promote improved self-esteem
  • Help you feel more confident
  • Make you look less tired
  • Increase overall quality of life

Essentially, what anyone is looking for when they undergo cosmetic surgery is they want to improve the way they feel by improving the way they look. By going through brow lift treatment, you’re not only helping yourself to look younger, but you’re also helping yourself feel younger.

How to know if you need brow lift surgery?
A common question that a lot of people ask themselves is whether or not it’s necessary for them to undergo something like this. We believe that, if you’re here and you’re thinking about it, it’s obviously something that bothers you.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, it’s so critical to your happiness that you like what you see, and unfortunately, we can’t always control certain aspects of our appearance. We can eat well, get plenty of exercise, and sleep for eight hours a night, but that won’t have any impact on the appearance of our eyebrows. This is where surgeries and treatments from professionals come into play.

Who Is a Candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

The requirements for this treatment are simple. If you’re in generally good health, you don’t smoke, and you’re between 40 and 65 years of age, you’re a good candidate for the treatment.

You’ll go through an initial consultation with our surgeon, where we’ll determine the best course of action for your unique needs, and we’ll listen to your goals and objectives. We work with you to make sure your outcome is exactly what you should expect, and there are no secrets.

Preparing for Treatment

If you think that brow lift treatment is the right option for you, there are a few things you’ll want to do or think about to prepare for the treatment. Some of you might not have to worry about these factors, while others may have to consider each one before coming in for a consultation. It’s important that you address these issues before we get started.

Before Treatment

Before we sit down and discuss your options, there are a few things you’ll want to think about. First, if you smoke, you’ll have to stop before and after. Smoking decreases the amount of blood flow in your skin, which will have a negative impact on the healing process. If you currently smoke, we’ll recommend that you stop and cease smoking until you recover. If you’re unable to do this, it’s likely that you won’t be able to go through the treatment.

If you take NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen, you’ll need to stop taking these prior to treatment. These types of drugs, including any herbal supplements, can increase bleeding, which can lead to complications during the surgery.

Lastly, you should have a plan for recovery upon completion of the surgery and for a night or two after. While this surgery is minimally invasive and doesn’t have a huge recovery process, it’s important that you have someone around to help you and look after you on the first night. You’ll also need to have someone drive you home.

During Treatment

The exact process implementing for your treatment will depend a lot on the factors discussed in your initial consultation. The surgeon will have to factor in the specific areas on your face that you’re targeting, as well as the location of the incisions they plan to make. They’ll look at your specific situation and determine the best course of action for your needs.

The technique used depends on the surgeon and the ultimate goal, but they will likely use one of the following three techniques:

Endoscopic

An endoscopic brow lift involves making a variety of small incisions behind the hairline. The surgeon then inserts a long thin tube called an endoscope. The scope has a camera mounted on end, and they’ll use that to see the tissues and muscles underneath the skin.

They’ll then make another incision to insert the instrument used to lift the tissue. Using the endoscope as a guide, they’ll lift the forehead tissue and anchor them in place and close the incisions.

Coronal

For this method, the surgeon makes a large horizontal incision from ear to ear around the hairline. They’ll lift the forehead skin into its new position and remove the overlapping scalp while sewing the new skin together. If you’re likely to lose your hair or you’re already losing it, the surgeon will likely not perform this surgery on you.

Hairline Lift

The surgeon makes an incision between your hairline and the top of your forehead. They remove a small portion of skin from the top of your forehead instead of your scalp. This method works well because it doesn’t pull your hairline back, so if you have a high or receding hairline, you won’t have to worry about pushing it back any further.

After Treatment

Immediately following treatment, you’ll likely have a loose wrap around your forehead to reduce swelling. There will also be a small tube to drain excess fluid and blood. We will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your incisions and what you should do moving forward.

For the first few days following a brow lift, you’ll want to rest with your head elevated and apply a cold compress to relieve the swelling. We’ll provide you with pain medication that you can take as directed based on how much pain you’re experiencing.

You’ll want to make sure that you don’t expose your incisions to excessive motion or pressure, and as they heal, they might feel itchy or numb. That’s perfectly normal, and it will lessen over time. In one to three days, you’ll get your bandages removed and expect to get the sutures out in as little as seven days, but this can always change based on the unique scenario.

As you get these things removed, you’ll start to go back to your normal life, and you’ll be able to resume activities such as washing your hair and bathing. Even for weeks after surgery, you’ll still have swelling that can result in pain, soreness, and stiffness. Keep in mind that this is normal and is something you should expect.

FAQs

How Long Does the Surgery Take?

From the point where the patient is under anesthesia to the time when we finish the surgery should take between one and two hours.

Does a Brow Lift Fix Hooded Eyes?

Eyes start to appear hooded when the skin around the eyebrows sags in conjunction with the eyelids. The combination of these factors causes the skin to droop around the eyes and can cause them to appear as if they’ve sunken into your face. By lifting the forehead, you’re not only pulling the eyebrows up, but you’re lifting the eyelids as well. These factors can certainly fix hooded eyes.

Does It Change the Eye’s Shape?

Many people wonder if this changes the overall shape and appearance of the eye, but it does not. It will not cause your eyes to be more open, and it will not pull on the skin above your eyes. Instead, it will strictly tighten the skin that used to hang over the eyes, causing a more “aged” appearance.

Is the Treatment Permanent?

No matter what we do, we cannot stop our bodies from aging, and our skin will continue to change over time. The surgery does not change the fundamental appearance of your skin, but it does provide you with a more youthful look that can turn the clock back by a few years.

Can You Do This Without Surgery?

One of the areas of our bodies that are hard to improve without surgical intervention is loose and saggy skin. There are ultrasound therapy techniques that are said to help, but we recommend going with the lift surgery because it offers the longest and best results with the least amount of effort on your part.

Is Botox the Same Thing?

Botox is a treatment that involves injections that tighten the skin around the eyes, nose, and mouth. The main thing that differs between these two treatments is the fact that Botox requires continuous visits and doesn’t solve the problem of loose skin. Instead, the injection is simply tightening the skin rather than fixing the problem at the source.

What Kind of Person Should Undergo This Treatment?

Anyone who is looking to improve their appearance and live a better quality of life should inquire about this. It’s not about whether or not you need it, but it’s about how much it will improve your life. Each day we have to look at ourselves in the mirror, and we want to like what we see. It’s hard to put a price tag on happiness, and it can never hurt to simply inquire.

Do Facial Exercises Raise Eyebrows?

Of course, we know that makeup can go a long way but are there ways to lift your eyebrows naturally without surgery or injections? Some people say that there are exercises that tighten the skin, and there’s some truth to this. Certain facial exercises will tighten the skin around the eyes by activating the tissue and putting it to use when it’s been dormant for so long. The problem is, the results are minor at best.
