It is perfectly natural for our appearance to change as we age. Nevertheless, we don’t need to learn to live with the changes. At Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery in Beckley, WV, we offer anti-aging injectables to help our clients look as young as they feel. Today, we’re highlighting one of our most popular anti-aging injectables, Juvederm Voluma.
How Long Does Juvederm Voluma Last?
If you’re like most people, you are displeased with the way your midface has lost volume as you have aged. Wrinkles and folds are common side effects of the natural aging process, but severe volume loss is also extremely common. Fortunately, it is possible to reverse this change.
Juvederm Voluma injections can quickly and effectively restore volume to the midface, and the results last for a very long time. Specifically, you can expect your Voluma results to last for 24 months before they start to fade. However, you may be able to extend your final results by taking excellent care of your skin following your treatment.
How Can I Enjoy Results That Last Longer?
To enjoy results that last for as long as possible, you need to make caring for your skin health a priority following your treatment. One of the most important things you can do for your skin health is stay hydrated. Individual hydration needs vary based on sex, activity level, and BMI, but most women need to drink around eight cups of hydrating fluids daily. Men typically need to drink around 16 cups of hydrating fluids every day.
Another great thing you can do for your skin health is to moisturize your skin once or twice daily. We will assess your skin type during your initial consultation and advise you on how many times per day you should moisturize your skin.
Why Does Facial Volume Loss Occur?
Many factors contribute to skin changes with age. For instance, wrinkles can be attributed to inadequate supplies of collagen and elastin. Collagen loss is also responsible for the severe volume loss that causes such problems as hollow temples, thin lips, and gaunt cheeks.
Voluma is so effective because it encourages your skin to produce extra collagen thanks to the administration of hyaluronic acid. It lasts for up to two years because collagen is very robust and the hyaluronic acid-based gel in the formula is manufactured with patented cross-linking technology.
What Is Voluma?
Voluma is an injectable dermal filler that can improve the appearance of your cheeks quickly and effectively. It is administered into several strategic points in your midface with a tiny needle to provide results that are simultaneously dramatic and natural-looking. Like other Juvederm formulas, this dermal filler comprises hyaluronic acid (HA).
HA is a polysaccharide that your body produces naturally, but your body’s production rate of this chain of sugar molecules slows over time. It is when your skin can no longer produce as much HA as it uses that some of the signs of aging start to show.
How Does This Treatment Work?
This injectable dermal filler provides an initial volume boost immediately because the gel takes up space in the foundational layer of your skin. However, the immediate results you will enjoy are just a hint of what is to come. Hyaluronic acid attracts and binds to an unbelievable amount of water molecules, increasing hydration in the treatment area.
The combination of extra hyaluronic acid and extra water encourages your skin to produce extra collagen. Once your skin has finished producing extra collagen in response to the increased hyaluronic acid and hydration levels, your skin will look younger, healthier, tighter, smoother, and plumper.
Other Juvederm Formulas
While Juvederm’s Voluma formula is perfect for improving the appearance of your cheeks, you may need a number of fillers to perfect your appearance. For instance, if you are concerned about thin lips, Juvederm Ultra may be the most appropriate anti-aging solution for you.
Juvederm Ultra XC is one of the most popular Juvederm formulas because it is so versatile and effective. It is a great formula for lip augmentation because it provides long-lasting results that look natural. However, it isn’t only an effective lip augmentation treatment.
It is also a very effective way to erase lines, wrinkles, and folds that appear around the mouth. Let us know during your initial consultation about all of the aesthetic concerns you have. We are more than happy to tailor a treatment plan that will allow you to address all of your beauty concerns.
What To Expect Throughout the Treatment Process
If you think increasing the volume in your cheeks would improve your self-confidence, you may be curious about what the treatment process is like. Fortunately, this treatment is incredibly convenient. Here’s what you can expect from start to finish.
An Initial Evaluation
Before your first Juvederm Voluma session is scheduled, you need to schedule an initial consultation. During this initial consultation, we will review your cosmetic concerns, aesthetic goals, and health history.
This information will allow us to determine whether you qualify for this treatment. If we find that you are healthy enough to receive this treatment and it will be an effective way for you to achieve your goals, we will answer any and all questions you have to ensure this treatment is a good fit for you.
The next step in the treatment process is preparing for your injection session. We will give you a comprehensive list of instructions during your initial consultation. Fortunately, due to the non-invasive nature of this treatment, there is very little that you need to do to prepare for your injection session.
However, it is important that you stop taking any drugs or supplements that may thin your blood. It is also very important that your skin is not irritated at the time of your appointment. Therefore, you should wear sunscreen diligently in the weeks leading up to your treatment and use skincare products that prevent acne outbreaks.
The next step in the treatment process is coming in for your injections. Before we administer the injectable dermal filler, we will thoroughly cleanse the areas targeted for treatment. If you are only getting Voluma injections, we will use an alcohol-based antiseptic to sterilize your midface. However, we will also sterilize other regions of your face if you are receiving multiple treatments during the same session.
Once your skin is prepared for treatment, we will administer several injections into strategic points in your midface. This allows us to provide you with natural-looking results. Depending on the scope of your treatment, your session may be complete in just 25 minutes. Note, treating a single area of concern with Juvederm usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, so your session may still be completed in under an hour even if you are treating multiple areas.
Once your treatment is finished, there are a few things you must do to ensure you enjoy the best possible results. Since this treatment is non-invasive, you don’t have to worry about pain, discomfort, or a long recovery process.
However, you need to make sure that you minimize your exposure to sunlight and avoid unprotected sun exposure. It is also crucial that you do not participate in any activity that will cause you to sweat profusely. Also, you need to discontinue the use of alcohol and tobacco products for a few days.
Do I Qualify for This Treatment?
To reiterate, to determine whether you qualify for this treatment, you need to come in for an initial evaluation. If you are concerned about extreme volume loss in your cheeks, sagging cheek skin, or cheekbones that you wish were more contoured, there is a very good chance that you will qualify for Juvederm Voluma treatments.
However, there are factors that will preclude you from qualifying for this treatment. For instance, you will not be a good fit for Voluma injections if you are nursing or pregnant. Also, this treatment may not be right for you if you are allergic to lidocaine or can’t stop taking blood-thinners for several days.
