As you get older, the structure of your face changes. Skin loses its elasticity, wrinkles form, and jowls develop along a once well-defined jawline. Fortunately, men and women who wish to maintain their youthful appearance and age gracefully, there is facelift surgery. A facelift with Dr. Paine can help to correct many of the signs of aging to provide you with a younger, well-contoured facial appearance for many years to come.
Should You Consider a Facelift
The facelift is one of the best known cosmetic surgery procedures and is still one of the go-to solutions for beating the signs of aging. The surgery is most common for men and women in their forties through sixties, but can also be performed as a preventative surgery for those in their mid to late thirties.
The facelift is designed to correct signs of aging in the mid to lower face and jawline. Common problems that can be improved with a facelift include:
- Deep facial creases (below the lower eyelids or at the corners of the mouth)
- Sagging skin or a loss of skin tone
It is also often combined with a neck lift to treat problems such as turkey neck or neck bands and folds. You may also choose to supplement your facelift with a brow lift or eyelid surgery. The facelift works best for patients who still have a strong underlying structure and some skin elasticity.
Dr. Paine will observe your condition during your consultation to develop a personalized facelift procedure plan. This will be based on factors including the current physical state of your face and your own personal preferences.
Facelift Procedure Steps
Dr. Paine will use general anesthesia for your facelift procedure. The traditional incision for a facelift starts at the temples and is made within the hairline to minimize scar visibility. The incision travels around the front of the ear and then finishes near the lower scalp. With access to the underlying facial structure, Dr. Paine can sculpt the fat and tissue and lift the muscles to achieve a more youthful appearance. The skin is then draped back over the new facial contours with any excess removed before the incisions are closed.
After Your Facelift Surgery
Some bruising and swelling is to be expected for a few weeks following your procedure. This is a normal component of facial surgery, but will gradually fade as your face continues to heal. Most patients should expect to spend about two weeks to a month away from work and other normal activities.
Once you are fully healed, the results of your facelift will have you looking like a much younger version of yourself. It is not intended to completely change your appearance, but rather to undo some of the effects aging has had on your face. Results can last for up to ten years.
