Sclerotherapy

SclerotherapyVaricose and spider veins are common blemishes that can appear on the legs. Women especially are at-risk for these problem veins, especially if they meet certain criteria. If you have started noticing visible veins on your legs, then you may be wondering what your treatment options are. Here at Mountain State Cosmetic Surgery, we offer sclerotherapy clarksburg to treat these veins, which is a tried-and-true method. We are conveniently located in Beckley, WV, so if you would like to learn more, feel free to contact us today to schedule your consultation!

What is Sclerotherapy?

This treatment has been around for decades, and it is a well-established way to treat problem veins. Sclerotherapy is typically a saline solution that is injected into the veins. The solution causes the veins to close off and collapse. The veins eventually becomes scar tissue and are absorbed by the body.

Sclerotherapy treats not only the visible issue of blue or red veins, but the physical issue of pain, discomfort, itching, and other side effects of varicose veins.

The Difference Between Varicose and Spider Veins

While both are caused by the same thing, they present in very different ways. Problem veins are caused by blood valves malfunctioning, which causes the veins bulge while the blood pools inside them. Spider veins are merely a cosmetic concern, as they appear like spider webs (hence the name) and are usually fairly small. They can appear on the face as well as the legs.

Varicose veins are much larger than spider veins, and they are usually blue or purple. When the blood cannot flow back to the heart, the vein swells and can cause pain, discomfort, or other symptoms. Spider veins usually sit underneath the skin, but varicose veins push outward as more and more blood pools.

After Your Sclerotherapy Treatment

We usually ask that you walk around for a few minutes to give the saline solution a chance to work its way through your veins. Once you’re home, we may give you compression stockings to wear to help the veins close up. Compression stockings can also be used to prevent more veins from appear, which is something sclerotherapy clarksburg cannot do.
